The learning path

Every person in life has a learning path that is generally unknown to us until we start moving on that way. And the way can be fun, interesting and challenging depending on how you push yourself to accomplish bigger things and on your reaction due to the adversities.

My life has been gone so far through many changes, challenges, and adversities that are teaching me important lessons. And I am completely sure that I wouldn’t be here where I am now if I haven’t gone through all of this. One important mindset to deal with this chaos that can happen sometimes is to be aware of things and understand that more important than what happens to you is the way you react to it. I am a believer that in every situation there is something to learn and I push myself to see the positive side of each experience.

Choose one direction and review the destination from time to time

If you want to go somewhere in life, you have to make choices: and more important, conscious choices. The opportunities are everywhere just waiting for someone to go there and take it. And the curious thing here is that this is true for small but also for big things. You don’t have to become a president to make a difference in the life of people surrounding you. Many things can be done in order to help others, and generally, people around you may need some help that you can provide. I like to use the quote “sharing is caring” because in the conditions I am today, I can share a lot of knowledge and information that can be helpful to someone. For example, if you tackled a problem from your course, maybe in a conversation with a colleague you can give some tips on how to approach it in a way that he can also find his own solution. The more you share, the more people will share back to you. It’s a vicious cycle, a good one.

You have to view your destination and put your dreams and goals in perspective, also checking them from time to time if that is still what you want to do. Don’t stay resting in bed waiting for things to happen and then you will start. You can start now.

Small steps count, look for guidance

Start doing things, one step at a time already counts. The common problem that people have is the resistance to begin, or sometimes the feeling that you are not able yet to do that. I suggest you fight the resistance and procrastination by seeing every small step in the desired direction as a personal achievement. Consistency is when you start doing things aligned to your purposes and you keep moving in that direction no matter the adversities you face. It’s not difficult after you get started. The inertia at the beginning may look hard but actually, it is not that complicated. The main motivation for me is to see that I am one step closer to my desired future, and I also improved something, even if a little bit, compared to yesterday.

See every small improvement as a victory and that you are approaching your destination.

You have the power inside you, sometimes you just have to realize that, or even recognize it by reflection from other people. A good advice I received years ago is to find mentors or someone that you can trust and help you on your way. It can be a friend, a relative, a colleague or an ex-professor. Their help are invaluable gifts that can boost your speed and give you different perspectives, which also can help you to make better decisions.

There are more people who share the same dreams as you. But if you don’t go out there and expose your ideas, you will never be heard. Just believe in yourself, go out there and make things happen.
