I think most of us have faced moments of confusion during our lives. Moments in which we don’t see the light at the end of the tunnel, or better saying, that we limit our views by the negative things and problems that we are facing. At these moments, we are also not able to see and feel grateful for all the beautiful things happening around us, as if we were blind to them.

And because our brain is still working out on these issues, our focus, or the ability to dedicate energy and action to do something, is lost. But even in the hardest moments, there is hope for us in recovering this so desired focus. Actually, part of the solution starts with having hope. Expecting and believing that things will get better in the future and that we deserve to have a better life.

Then, it is also very important to separate real problems from the so-called “could be” problems, because the latter are not real, although we may feel as they are. Examples of such “could be” problems are numerous: I could lose my job, I could be sick, I could have an accident, I could not have enough money to cover my bills next month, I could lose a close relative who is sick. Most of those are not real, and if we act, they will not become. For each one, we can do something to avoid it from turning into a problem. And also for the real problems, we can act to solve them or at least remediate them. For the real big problems, we can divide them into small solutions, such as small tasks that we can handle. For the other parts that we can’t handle, then we do not need to worry because we can do nothing about it.

After looking at all the problems (real and could be), we should decide what is most important and put them as first priorities. Our mental and physical health, our close family and friends, and everything that brings us closer to the place we hope to reach in the future are good examples of first priorities. Also important is not forgetting to live in the present, making the most of this time.

From time to time we need to reflect on the current situation and make adjustments of route and priorities, especially knowing that life is quite dynamic. For sure we can improve the current path in all different fields of our personal and professional lives and refocus on them.

During all these (mental) cleaning and organizing processes, we start giving attention (which means focus) to what really matters. After doing that, we will be sure that the other things are not our priorities. And that is exactly why they should not steal our focus.
